Yes, right after God promised Abraham the land he left the land due to a famine in Genesis 12. If the promise was everlasting then Abraham should have remained in the land and not have gone into Egypt.

Quote:
And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said: 'Unto thy seed will I give this land'; and he builded there an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.
And he removed from thence unto the mountain on the east of Beth-el, and pitched his tent, having Beth-el on the west, and Ai on the east; and he builded there an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.
9 And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the South. {P}
י10 And there was a famine in the land; and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was sore in the land.
So your argument is basically that God is a shyster? "Sorry, Abram, old buddy, you should have read the fine print. The covenant's void if you leave the land. Oh, and acts of God aren't covered in the policy."

God is not a shyster....but he keeps the law firm of Raipe, Pillage & Slaughter on retainer.

And another question: do Jews have any say in entering into this covenant? If you are born Jewish, are you automatically stuck with this contract? I think I'd be contacting my lawyers and claiming: "I never signed this thing, therefore I am not bound by the terms and conditions ... "
