Actually - EVERY Muslim scholar in existence firmly believes that Jesus existed....

Some other non Christian scholars who accept the HJ are Samuel Sandmel, David Flusser, Israel Abrahams, C.G. Montifiorre, and Ernst Bammel.

Lots of assertions in there! I think that I would like to see some ancient sources for them. After all anyone can post anything online!
We probably need to specify what, and how we know.

We don't need to do anything right now. This is all way off topic... maybe some other time, on another thread.

You're quite right.

Actually I was just thinking the other day of how people say x 'is' y, and how we need to jump on that whenever we see it as sloppy thinking, so apologies if anyone got the backwash from that.

All the best,

OK, anti-wowser, and I do apologise - "sheila".

I've also read Jos Campbell and a good deal of Jung for another kind of context. I've also read books on Hinduism, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism, Babylonian and Canaanite polytheism (esp goddesses), ancient Egyptian religion, Gnosticism and other early Christianities, Kabbalah, Talmud, Platonism, Greek mystery religion, and Celtic religion.
Um. Why? For instance I can't read much of the gnostic texts, because my eyes keep closing and I'm afraid of losing contact with my extremities. I can't imagine why atheists could or would read them. Not while there are parties to go to.

All the best,

Default Go Claremont

Hi mens sana,

It seems to me that Claremont's School of Theology is one of the best and most up to date. Many other theological schools are positively medieval in outlook.

Warmly,

Philosopher Jay

Sounds rather like Burton Mack had a HJ in mind, does it not? By the way, for many years Burton Mack taught at the Southern California School of Theology at Claremont, latterly known as the Claremont School of Theology. This is the same school that hired the young James M. Robinson of Nag Hammadi Library fame — and it is my alma mater.

But I collect them as fairy tales and then tell the stories at the parties! I always get invited back.:Cheeky:

To the participants here: I would like to split this thread and separate the discussion of Jay's list of putatively mythicist scholars, and possibly other subtopics. The way things are going, I will probably not get around to it until Sunday late. Feel free to PM me with suggestions.
