So is this "claim" that Lincoln was gay a long-running satire/joke? Or did they just make it up for the article? Either way it's funny, though. Good find.

AFAIK (based mostly on reports from my wife) there's some merit to the idea that Lincoln might actually have been gay.

There was a book about Lincoln being gay that was recently published. Amusingly, Bill Oh-Oh-Oh-Reilly had a guest on to debunk the idea. The debunker admitted that there were some flaws in the author's research, but that it was generally accepted by historians that Lincoln was at least bi-sexual. O'Reilly was really surprised to hear this and suddenly got very huffy about the whole notion of it and demanded that he 'prove' it. The guest went on to describe instances of Lincoln's bodyguard sleeping in his room while his wife was away, and walking around in just Lincoln't shirt and such. Also, several people who lived in the Whitehouse and who knew Lincoln personally made comments to that effect. So O'Reilly asked "so did Lincoln actually say 'I am gay'", and of course he hadn't, so he quickly concluded "oh, well I wont believe it then". I really doubt that he would ever have considered the evidence, though, unless it contained some kind of pre-Edison video footage of the act.
