I read it from cover to cover as a teenager. I did not question it at that time. I assumed there was a meaning over my head that I couldn't grasp to account for all the inanities.

I have read the Satanic Bible, the Witch's Bible...even the Bartender's Bible. That's good enough for me

OK ... so a lot of you have read the Bible completely. Good. I hope this thread has at least eliminated a few criticizers from the fray. Is there anyone here who would admit to having criticized the Bible, yet you have not read it?

As for the Koran, it seems that the consensus is that some individuals have become better people as a result of Islam, that there is some Islamic charity work, and they have some prophecies that they think are convincing. I guess some of the differences are a matter of degree: the Bible's distribution far outpaces the Koran, I'm guessing that the number of Christian hospitals, orphanges, etc. far exceeds Islam's and so on.

As for the Bible ... its historical accuracy, remarkably fulfilled prophecies, accurate description of the human condition, its simple, sensible formulas for a successful society proven in Britain, America and other countries, its unity of theme amidst diversity of authorship, its preservation despite constant attack and so on, cause me to believe that the Bible, like life itself, originated in the Mind of a Super Intelligence. I suppose if I had to sum up the differences (and mind you ... I only know about the Koran from what people tell me), it would boil down to this: the Bible seems supernatural in origin and the Koran does not.

But ... maybe to show you that I'm not closed minded, I'll read it sometime.

(I'm teaching Vacation Bible School all this week, so not much time for posting ... maybe more time next week)

But Dave, let us take note of the fact that you criticize the theory of evolution, yet have never read Origin of Species.
Nor have you read any complete book on evolution.
Nor have you read any complete book on geology.

So you are prepared to cast stones at th ose who criticize that with which they are not intimately and thoroughly familiar, yet freely indulge in such behavior yourself.

There's a word for people like that.
And it's not a nice word.

But then, you are not a nice person, are you?

no hugs for thugs,

Key words highlighted. I suspect if there was a muslim here they would guess precisely the opposite. Which is rather the point.

Why just GUESS when with a little effort you could find out the facts ?
Unless of course you fear that the figures will show Christianity in a bad light

What "historical accuracy "?
I have yet to see you in any thread here successfully show that the Bible is an accurate historical record (I accept that there are parts which appear "historical " but there are equally other parts which are not so much for inerrant and divinley inspired I guess)

Again you seem to have picked a few remarkably vague "prophecies" that could be twisted into what actually happenened and conveniently ignored those that didn't "come true "

Many many novels and works of poetry can give you an "accurate description" of the "human condition " that does NOT mean that they are "divinely inspired" either

These simple sensible formulas pre date much of Christianity and are present even where Christianity is/was not , as you would know if you read any philosophies other than the Christian one, Plato may be a good place to start. You appear not to know how Christianity evolved through the millenia and adapted "pagan philosophy " to get where it is now

"Unity of theme" ? what else would you expect from a collection of Bronze Age and Iron Age myths have a look at Greek, Roman or even Norse myths and you will be amazed at the "unity of theme" there as well .
"Constant attack" since Christianity became the "State Religion" of the Roman Empire, the Bible can hardly had been said to have been under "constant attack" since then can it ?
And even so this "constant attack" you seem to be complaining about is merely we humble mortals pointing out the historical innaccuracies, the nonsensical myths, the bad science and the ludicrous stories in it.

But you have never been able to show why if this book (or collection of booksto be more accurate ) "originated in the Mind of a Super Intelligence " there are so many innaccuracies in history, science, etc etc etc
And since you admit you have not read the Koran you can hardly compare the two (as others have repeatedly pointed out )

WHOA WHOA NOW JUST WAIT A MINUTE THERE, MISTER...

Did you just claim what I think you did? Did you just say that if one criticizes a book he has not read completely, he automatically gets "eliminated form the fray" of criticizers?

Yup, I think that is exactly what you did.

Congratulations dave. You have successfully expelled yourself from the "fray" of evolution criticizers. Now, don't bother coming back, unless you have read AT LEAST ONE of all the books in the diciplines you try to discredit. You can start with Darwin's works, if you like. Just remember: "Completely" and "cover to cover". OK?

And of course, if you don't and continue to post your absurd claims when you return, all we will say is "Um, did you perhaps read any of those books we told you to read, dave? Cover to Cover? No? Well then..."

"STFU."

And, naturally, point to your OWN WORDS, posted here, to support our demand.
Sound fair to you? I believe it should. You area fair and just man, right?

Why do I get the feeling this is going to be the last time we see you in this thread, dave?

Remember: Dave thinks that a "prophecy" that says "The Romans will be victorious in 10 years" is "not very specific", while one that says "Tyre will fall... someday, could be ages, dunno" is "amazingly accurate".

I suppose that Faid is implying that I should not criticize ToE if I have not read Darwin's Origin?

Nonsense.

I'm not criticizing a book. I'm criticizing a theory ... And I have studied ToE extensively.
