When I lived in Italy I was discussing Santa with some Northern Italians. They told me they didn't like the American version of Santa Claus, because he was married to "Mrs. Claus". Santa, aka St. Nicholas, was a saint, and saints were never married.:huh:

Well, people can still see each other, treat each other, give presents to each other, and do everything else they normally do without having to rely on ol' Santa...unless there's some wisdom/sarcasm I'm not seeing here :huh: , though I do sense irony.

I just think Santa Claus is nothing more than a mere symbol of the happy holidays. I mean, other than understanding the folklore that this guy is based on, I really don't see any point for Santa Claus...other than the advertising and whatnot .

Seriously, there was no year zero. Zero had either not been invented at the time the BC/AD calendar was begun, or had not made it to Europe, I forget which.

The scary thing is that Europe is exactly the place which would ban something like Santa Claus, on the grounds of it offending someone.
