Is this "Hegesippus" a possible source for the TF? It seems like his works were a mixing and corruption of the works of Josephus, and in some cases falsely attributed to Josephus, so...?

This seems like a pretty big deal...

No. He wrote late in century IV, and Eusebius quotes the Testimonium early in century IV. But it was a nice thought.

The author of the "Old Slavonic Josephus" did just the same. It's a mistake to consider this as merely a version of the Jewish War; in reality it's a composition called The three captures of Jerusalem, and for the seige of AD 68, his main source was a copy of the Jewish War, augmented by stuff from Antiquities, John Malalas, etc.
