Wait a minute here sorompio. If freedom of religion was not a civil right in those days what makes you think that you can change that law today.

Freedom from religion 'was' but not freedom 'of' religion and especially not the perversion of the national religion. As for me? I am proud of it,-- not because people perished but that it is obvious that they knew where they were going and also knew how to get there. And yes, this includes both the Church and the State.

Of course you might think that the cultural high our civilization reached was an accident but that is not true at all.

I don't quite get it, Chili. Their merit was that they were "sure" about what they were doing and knew how to do it, how is it different of the many terrorist groups that exist around the world or any other triumphant regime based on terror and control?

Terrorism is wrong. The Church here was in charge of its destiny and witches were the terrorists that "preached a different gospel" to the flock. They were the wolves in sheep's-clothing, as the bible puts it, that robbed devout Catholics from eternal life by leading them to Jesus, as we call it today, so that their eyes will be opened to Gods love before God's own time, as it is presented in Songs 2:7. Based on this were they spiritual fornicators (yes, spiritual pedophiles) that misled the flock by awakening 'the inner man' before the 'outer man' was ready to receive and they used trickery to achieve this against the integrity of the believer . . . wherefore trickery is required to achieve this end that left them torn between their God nature and sin nature until they died, nonetheless -- and the "nonetheless" is added here because they failed to complete what they had started even in forty years while 40 months should be sufficient to be fully transformed (complete the race wherein we work out our own salvation).

You might not agree with this and you are not asked to believe anything I write, but the position that I hold must be presented as the only way to justify their actions.

Note that their motive was not to gain power but to make saints out of sinners and never to leave them stranded as saved-sinners for life. IOW they were acts of charity and benevolence.
