Default I Think Terminally Ill People Should Kill Themselves in Public

Preferably by shooting themselves in the head, and here's why...

It absolutely pisses me off that euthanasia is illegal. It makes me steaming mad that some asshole in government has the power to force me into a painful, drawn-out death, should I become terminally ill. It pisses me off that because of some legislature's theological beliefs, if I'm terminally ill, I'll be forced to choose between a torturous slow death and crudely blowing my head off with a shotgun. It pisses me off that that there exists the medical knowledge to allow terminally ill people to die quickly and painlessly, but it's kept from the public.

So what should I do with my anger? Should I whine on IIDB, and then when the day comes I become terminally ill, whine to my family, and then die a slow painful death? I think not. I think there's a better way.

Yes, if legislators are going to force terminally ill people to die painfully and slowly, then damnit, they're going to see that painful death, and the people who vote for them will see it too; they're not going to sweep the nasty reality under the rug.

I say if you're terminally ill, go to a crowded public place, step onto something, calmly take out your weapon of choice, and then shoot yourself in the head. Of course, leave a note saying that you did not want to shoot yourself, and that you would have preferred to die cleanly and painlessly in the comfort of your own home, but that because of present laws, you were forced to fire a bullet into your brain instead.

I say this might actually get something done. Could you label these people as crazy? Sure, but not of 10, 20, 100 people start to do it. If enough sane, terminally ill people do this, things will finally change.

It wouldn't really even need to be a lot of people doing it; four or five high-profile examples would probably be enough to start uproar.

Good sentiment, I suppose; kinda controversial.

I dunno .. if you offend enough people - and blowing your brains all over them is kinda offensive - then they are less likely to agree with your cause, I would think.

Personally I'd rather blow my brains out than take an overdose which is how most euthanasia is done. But that is beside the point.

Well, technically, I think most states consider suicide illegal..."How dare you take your life into your own hands, "says the Gov. "We are your Gods, not you!"

And, the Medical industry...yes it is a capitalist industry, consider you to be taking food from their childrens mouths..."How dare you rob us of our deserved income by denying us keeping you locked in an ICU and piking the insurance companies for money while you die slowly...dying slowly makes us money...and as we all know, doctors, insurance, pharmies, owners and lawyers need more money, right?!!? How else we supposed to be able to afford sending our kids to some expensive blue state liberal arts school where they can learn to write poetry and get hooked on smack and lesbianism?"

Please, think of the failing insurance companies, well intentioned moral crusaders, malnourished hospital executives, overpaid meat magicians, and barely turning a profit pharmecutical companies before you take away a chunk of their so desprately needed income and give it only to the undertaker.

Even better, on live TV if you can find the right situation.

I think it's a good idea. A tad extreme but anything to get the legislators' attention.

One problem is that a lot of the time, these very ill people can't move anymore, much less shoot themselves.

Assisted suicide happens much more than is commonly known. From personal experience I know that when AIDS patients, in their last few weeks, stay home to die, a nurse will drop by with morphine. She will explain exactly how much to give them and how often. She will also explain exactly how much is lethal. She does this with a telling glance and no questions are ever asked.

I agree with your sentiment but not necessarily your approach.
