I'm afraid that I have never heard of him, so I have no real idea what you're looking for.

I did follow the links, but I was unable to locate anything except advertisments for books etc. There appears to be no content except devotional commentaries on bits of the OT. I'm sure it's valuable to some people (probably not a UK person like me, if only for cultural reasons), but I have nothing useful to offer on this; sorry.

All the best,

Actually I was thinking more of the mainland settlement, spare Tyre.

You must be the only person in the UK who's never heard of Sir Fancis Dake. have you never eaten a potato?

You mean the chap who when told the Spanish Armada was approaching replied, "The Spanish can wait. My bowels can't"? (From 1066 and all that (or via: amazon.co.uk), the only truly reliable guide to English history).

Fascinating. I can guarantee every single pentecostal minister in Britain has a copy of Dake and uses it continually for all their sermon writing!

Basically, Finis Jennings Dake was committed to providing a doctrinally sound, literal interpretation of whatever was contained in the Word of God. In an effort to carry on his ministry, Dake Publishing has described its mission as one of "preserving the truth."

Although as a youngster I naively consumed many of his "Devil Dogs" I know better now. http://www.hometown-treats.com/products/devil_dogs.html

Why is it that tectonics and Dake are not treated equally seriously?

Why is one thought to be a nutter and not the other?

Oh, Pentecostals tend to be white working class and black churches.

An interesting appeal to the maxim that we must all conform to societal values, but surely not relevant here?

No a misunderstanding - why is one set of mumbo jumbo given priority over another, when one you have never heard of and is from black and working class backgrounds?

Please note it also claims it is interpreting the Bible literally.

And a basic principle of history, anthropology and sociology, look at all the various cultures you find, compare and contrast, and understand where they are coming from.

I intoduced Dake because of a comment about Holden' millenial beliefs.

You do realise this is a wonderfully deep vein to explore? Dake's Chart of the Ages is in many ways a work of art with very important historical significance in understanding these fascinating religions - of which Holden is just another variety, no matter he has a well honed tone of authority.

Look at Holden and Dake as basically identical apart from class and educational and presentational differences and think about that.

An interesting tidbit about Holding , or Turkel if that's his name, is that he is a Preterist. He once told me that we are currently in the millenial reign of Christ. That Jesus bound Satan when he came in AD 70 with the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple. He believes Jesus meant AD 70 when he said "This generation will not pass..."
