Don't be silly. FSM is winning, by far. The number of Christians today is not 1000 times the number of Christians this spring.

Winning a debate is not about having better arguements or even about being right. It's about convincing others. As long as people are still willing to hijack airplanes and crash them into buildings in the name of religion, we haven't won anything.

I have the perfect disproof of the existence of God. Trot Him out and i'll show it to you.

At one time everyone believed the sun revolved around the earth. That did not make the statement true.

Should the 5-6 billion non-Evangelical Christians become Evangelical Christians, that will have no implications whatsoever for the truth of that particular belief system--nor will it make the sun revolve around the earth.

No fair shifting the burden of proof. I'm not trying to convince you God exists; you're trying to convince me God doesn't exist. It is up to you to advance an argument to support your claim.

Which god are you talking about seebs? The Christian God of the Bible as mentioned in the OP or the hypothetical god you seem to be sliding towards?

The one that will be made up on the spot to counter any inconsistencies pointed out. The one that magic will be called upon to solve said inconsistencies. This is a favourite past time of theologians.

Is it really up to us to disprove a God for whom you can present no positive evidence at all? I refuse to accept the burden of disproof. If you wish to believe in God, the IPU, or Santa Clause, that is your concern. If you wish to claim that that belief has any relevance to the real world, then the burden of proof lies with you.

I'm not shifting anything. I'm claiming that God doesn't exist. I'll be happy to convince you. All you have to do is trot Him out and I'll demonstrate by use of a simple and elegant experiment how He's not really God.

Yes, logic is one criteria of judging victory in this debate; getting the facts straight is the other. We skeptics have both superior logic and the facts. We are the winners in the debate by any reasonable standard.

I believe that our victory in the debate will eventually yield the fruits of which you speak. Let’s call the first victory a “polemical victory and the second a “moral victory. Moral and social progress hinges on the eradication of religious belief.
