But he does put blame on the Zealots, does he not?

Thank you for those other references. I think it is also important that Josephus mentions many minor leaders by name, ones who were responsible for insurrections for example - and even the goofy Jesus character running around with the "Woe unto Israel" line.

So it points to Jopsephus not just recognizing sects, but also individuals and groups notable for political and military reasons or even humorous irony.
