...because having them die makes a more compelling story. It is after all, a story.

Suicide bombers expect 72 virgins.

Kamikaze pilots thought their emperor was a 'god.'

The Heaven's Gate morons thought a big space ship was coming for them.

People do all sorts of stupid shit in the name of religion. Doesn't make any of it true.

Would Joe say something false if he knew it was false and would get him killed? Probably not.

Would Joe say something false if he was convinced it was true, even though it might get him killed? maybe.

Would Steve say that Joe died for something false, thereby making it seem as though that thing is true by Joe's commitment to it unto death if it got Steve power? Absolutely.

This newly discovered transcript of Peter's court case casts some light on the matter.

Judge. 'Prisoner in the dock. You are charged with treason against the Roman Empire. It is alleged that you believe that a corpse got out of its grave, ate some fish, and then went to Heaven, and won't return for more than 2,000 years, long after the Roman Empire ceases to exist. This is a very serious charge. How do you plead?'

Peter 'Not guilty, your honour. I made it all up. I'm a cheat, swindler, hoaxer and liar. I'm a conman. I swindle people out of money for a living. I thought I could fool all of you, so made up this hoax. I'm a fraud.'

Judge 'In that case, you are free to go.'

The portion of the manuscript for the last sentence is a little faded, so it has had to be reconstructed by scholars. Some scholars claim that the judge ordered Peter to be killed, but that can't be correct, because Peter recanted.
You have got to be kidding, right? Its funny how new discoveries are popping up everywhere disputing the lives of Jesus and the Apostles. I bet you are one of those Dan Brown's fans arent you?

I didn't realize it had been established that any of the apostles had lived let alone how they may have died.

Dan Brown makes money out of nominal christians and indirectly from people silly enough to sell books trying to debunk the crass piece of fiction to other christians.

The reason why "new discoveries are popping up everywhere disputing the lives of Jesus and the [a]postles" is because fewer people are mentally straight-jacketed by christian dogma these days. Some people might like to try to understand what really happened.

Check your irony meter. It seems to be shut down.
