Mark 14
57 Then some stood up and gave this false testimony against him: 58 "We heard him say, 'I will destroy this man-made temple and in three days will build another, not made by man.' " 59 Yet even then their testimony did not agree.

The Bible claims we can tell if witnesses are false, if they agree on the main points, but their testimony does not agree on the details.

Since you clearly have a strong reason to believe that the accounts of the death and resurrection of Christ are consistent and reconcilable, please take the time to answer Dan Barker's Easter Challenge and report the results back to us.

If it were so easy, surely mata leao would have responded by now.

1. kennedy was killed by a sniper bullet (to the back of his head)
2. the people who came to the empty tomb believed that Jesus Christ had arisen from the dead.
3. and while we're at it: eating lots of saturated fat, cholesterol, and red meat is bad for your heart and arteries,
4. cabernet's travel better than merlot's.

Ok, I get it now. You don't actually believe any specific Easter story told in a particular gospel account, but rather a generalized Easter story stripped of detail.

BTW, thank for the generalized red wine tip. And given your belief in #3, can I then assume you are vegetarian?

That people in a story about Jesus rising from the dead are depicted as viewing an empty tomb and believing does nothing to support the historicity of the resurrection. In fact, the evidence suggests that the "empty tomb" is a later development. Paul tells us that the apostles believed because the risen Christ appeared to them. He says absolutely nothing about any empty tomb or even an empty grave to accompany his "buried" Jesus having anything whatsoever to do with their faith.

amaleq, you could be absolutely right. But, for "whatever complex host of reasons" I beleive that the tomb was empty because Christ arose ...and that he became the risen Christ and appeared as such.... that is why I am a medical missionary(albeit part time). Amaleq, I beleive ! I am a believer. I have faith. It seems unshakable and brother, I have been shaken! shaken a lot! and I am not sure there can ever be any historical support for a supernatural event....human nature is just as complex as historical revisionism! Form critics since the early 1800's have fought over all this same territory, we are no closer to any conclusion. however, most great leaders and martyrs have gravesites.......the relatively complete lack of adoration of any tomb seems to militate in favor of the resurrection, at least logically.

I'm surprised you aren't familiar enough with the evidence to know.

Unfortunately for you, what you believe is utterly irrelevant in this forum. All that matters here is what you can support with evidence. If all you want to do here is share your faith, you are in the wrong place.

This makes no sense. Evidence of adoration would consistitute evidence of a tomb. An absence of evidence of adoration certainly does not accomplish the same.
