Fascinating. Haven't heard this one. Which Xtians? All of them? I can't recall being taught that in Sunday School.

I love this about Xtianity. There is no belief not embraced by some Christian sect somewhere.

Well Turton. We have radically different ideas of what constitutes monotheism. You seem to think it means those who believe only in ONE spirit creature. No angels, no demons, no satan. Just one spirit creature. This throws Islam, Judaism, and Christianity out the window. In fact, I'm not sure anything is left. So what good is the label and why have so many scholars used it to refer to Judaism, Islam, and Christianity?

LOL!!!

You are actually going to DEFEND your slip up, and stick with the loonie idea that Christians worship Satan??

This is almost as good as talking about how Constantine wrote the New Testament, and I must admit, after having grown bored with the Holocaust deniers, and the Castro/Khruschev/FBI/KGB/CIA/Mafia/Lyndon Johnson killed Kennedy crowds, this is a refreshing line of argumentation.

Let's see what else you have to back yourself up on this one Michael. (And remember James Still's warning, the lurkers are watching).

I just did defend it. Twice.

It's that pesky reading problem of yours, I suppose.

Either make an actual argument, as Layman has, ask intelligent questions, as Layman has, make useful remarks, as Toto, Marduck, and a couple of other posters, or butt out. So far, in a couple hundred posts on several threads, I haven't seen you do anything of the sort, yet.

Michael, the majority of Protestant Christianity believes this. It's a direct statement in the New Testament. Catholics could too, but I'm not sure. You still have not answered how a being is supreme and yet has peers. I'll get the angels being judged reference later...sorry. -Shaun

Why don't you ask them to explain it? And why have so many scholars from other viewpoints labeled it polytheistic?

I didn't throw out Judaism, you did. I tossed Christianity, Islam and several other religions.

Tell me, is Hinduism monotheistic or polytheistic? Quick! Use the definitions Nomad gave....

And yes, Monotheism means belief in one god, as Nomad established at the beginning of the thread. Various Christians worship various oddball assortments of gods, angels, spirits, demons, devils, and so forth.

No can do bud. I would no more debate the idea that Christians actually worship Satan than I would argue with a Holocaust denier or a conspiracy (of your choice) nut. My interest here is in seeing you continue to post this nonsense for the lurkers.

I think it was Napoleon that said something to the effect of "when the enemy is busy destroying himself, do not interfere."

Still having fun...

No wonder. I was raised a good Italian Catholic. Can't recall ever hearing that, and I just read the Cath. Ency. article on angels, don't recall seeing it there. Could be true. There's a lot of weird doctrine out there.

As for "supreme," don't you think it might have something to do with the relative positions of humans before and after the end of the world?

Michael

No problem. I live for your amusement.

BTW, are Hindus monotheists or polytheists?

Hi Shaun, and welcome to the Boards. You certainly picked THE thread to join.

The reference you are looking for is found in Paul's letter to the Corinthians, and is a well established doctrine.

1 Corinthians 6:3 Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!

Are you a polytheist yourself?

Once again, welcome aboard.

You tossed any religion that believes in any other spiritual creature other than God. That includes Judaism.

Through special pleading you have discovered that Judaism, Islam, and Christianity are not, in fact, monotheistic. In fact, monotheistic, despite previously held opinions by a wide range of religious scholars and theologians, means that only one spiritual creature exists. Anything else is polytheism. Through further special pleading you have also discovered that Christians (and by implication, Muslims) actually worship satan!

Well done. When do you publish?
