If Jesus was killed on Friday and was buried before sundown, it could count as 1 day since it was before evening. Then Friday night - Saturday morning = 1 night.
Saturday morning - Saturday evening = 1 day
Saturday evening - Sunday morning = 1 night --- (Out before sun-up so can't add another night)
This adds up at the most to 2 days and 2 nights per Jewish understanding, 1 and 1/2 days per Roman (our) understanding.
The rebuttal I have seen is that since Passover fell on Saturday that year, there was an extra Sabbath, which means Jesus was killed on Thursday. (Jews got an extra day off) Is this a vaild defense? Can someone expound on the Passover and Sabbaths?If you say it is, please provide proof and not speculation.

I think it's 1 1/2 days no matter how you slice it. Jesus supposedly died Friday evening; by dawn Sunday, he had already left the tomb. We have no information on the actual time of the resurrection event, when his body presumably floated out of its shroud.

Another oddity into the mix: by the 1 day = 1000 years model, Jesus will not be truly resurrected for another 1000 years (after 3 "days"). I say "truly" resurrected -- just as Adam died "spiritually" the day he ate the apple. Sometimes the Bible doesn't mean what it says, ya know.

Guys guys guys... this one is very easy to solve. It is because of the timezone difference between Earth and Hell. When I lived in Vegas, and I flew to Salt Lake City to cover a Utah Jazz game, our return flight created some time wonkiness. The flight was less than an hour, but I was flying from the Mountain time zone to the Pacific time zone, so I landed before I left!

Assuming Hell is pretty far away from Earth (I would disagree, as I write this from Texas...) that would mean Jesus' return trip to show off for the Apostles might mean that he was physically gone for 3 days, to him... but only 2 days to us.

But, that leads to another problem. I would assume Jesus racked up some pretty sweet airline miles... but now that he's dead, he can't use them! Now what? Did the airline just delete them? Is there anyway I could get some?

The last supper took place on Thursday evening, March 19, AD 33. Jesus was crucified on Friday, March 20. In the wee hours after midnight Jesus leaves the cave under his own power. This is the Sabbath day. There is not too much excitement because the festivities are taking place in the ideal Jerusalem about 15 miles away. Jesus will go visit the Essene gate on Monday (not one of the gates of entry to the ideal Jerusalem, instead, this is the Mount of Olives which is immediately outside of Jerusalem. On Tuesday evening he will return to Qumram (Jerusalem). This Tuesday evening will be Day 3, that is, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. On the third day Jesus will have walked under his own power back to Qumran where he was crucified.

Ah, but if Hell is too far away, then Jesus must have traveled at near the speed of light to get there and back. The upper limit, of course, is 36 light-hours away. But travelling at relativistic velocities, time would have dilated for Jesus -- making the 2 days in the stationary inertial reference frame experienced by his disciples seem as only 1 day (or less) to him. So the timezone effect would be neutralized.
