Post Herod back from the dead?

Quote:
2:19 But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,
2:20 Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child's life.
So herod was clealy dead before Christ returned to Israel but....

Quote:
23:11 And Herod with his men of war set him at nought, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate.
23:12 And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were at enmity between themselves.
Quote:
6:14 And king Herod heard of him[Jesus}; (for his name was spread abroad and he said, That John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.
Quote:
12:1Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church.
12:2 And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.
12:3 And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)
Now herod's sucessor was Antipatter, therefore we are not talking about a different King herod, as there was not one at the tim, therefore did Herod rise from the Dead?

Actually, there [I]were[\I] two Herods. Obviously the dead Herod is the predecessor of the Herod you mention.

When the great King Herod died (the one mentioned in Luke), his kingdom was split between his sons, two of whom did add Herod to their names. Herod Antipas locally in Galilee as a tetrarch until 39, and Herod Archelaus ruled Judea until AD 6, but only as an ethnarch.

Well, I'm mildly confused--you just said Herod's sucessor was Antipatter. But, in any case, I'm not sure it's relevant; there are a variety of possibilities about the order of succession. Perhaps there were two, three, even more rulers between the two Herods; death came easily back then even to kings, so it wouldn't be completely surprising. In addition, it was fairly common for rulers to change their names. There are a variety of plausible reasons that make a lot more sense than "Zombie Herod".

 • 37 bce - Herod the Great conquers Judea
 • 4 bce - Death of Herod the Great. Herod Archelaus governs Judea, Herod Philip - Idumea, and Herod Antipas gets Galilee
 • 6 ce - Herod Archelaus is deposed and Judea is assigned a procurator.
 • 34 ce - death of Herod Philip.
 • 39 ce - Herod Antipas deposed.
 • 41 ce - Herod Agrippa I unites Judea.
 • ...and on

There were many Herods - the name probably took on a connotation like Caesar or pharaoh, although if true, it was never widespread.

and to put things in perspective...Herod the great was known as the murderer of the innocents...in case anybody is keeping score.
