Thumbs up Thanks to Jeffery Lowder

It is a rare pleasure when I get to say that I agree with one of the leading sceptics of Infidels.org, but in this particular case I must admit that I am in Jeff's debt.

Rather than steal his thunder, I will merely offer the link to one of his most recent essays, and invite all here to read it.

How Not to Argue Against the Historicity and Resurrection of Jesus: A Critique of Dennis McKinsey’s Encyclopedia of Biblical Errancy (2001)

The title is largely self explanitory, and I had little difficulty in accepting virtually all of Jeffery's arguments (although it will be obvious that I do have some relatively minor disagreements with him on the issues he raises).

All that I will say here is well done Jeffery, and thank you.

Peace,

Nomad

I read it and I commend Jeff Lowder on a good job as well.

If atheists/skeptics are going to be consistent, then we must be skeptical of atheist arguments as well as theistic ones. The very concept of being willing to debunk arguments from our own camp is part and parcel of being a good skeptic.

Allowing shoddy work to flourish or to be used would only hurt our position rather than support it.

Jeff seems to do well at staying away from the more "questionable" atheistic arguments. His definition of "free-thinker" as possibly including theists and his debate
with Phil Fernandez "Naturalism vs. Theism" (I bought the tape) are further good examples where he doesn't make erroneous or useless points.

Good Article. Christians and skeptics alike could save a lot of time by getting past the surface arguments, as Jeff does in his article.

Thanks Jeff.

Wink

Maybe we can all nominate Jeffrey for Savior and start a new religion? We could wear bracelets that say "WWJD" (What Would Jeffrey Do?)
