Post History of Judaism/Christianity...

Does anyone have a take on this guy? The information he presents? Are his facts accurate?
http://www.pe.net/~bidstrup/bible.htm

It sounds like a good essay, but I'm relatively new to all this, so I have no idea as to the accuracy of information provided...if I like what I hear, I tend to believe it. =)

I have a little knowledge of history and it sounds accurate to me.

He lists his references at the end of the essay, and they are legitimate secondary sources.

He states on his homepage that he is a secular humanist liberal gay rodeo-cowboy, with 20 years experience as an engineer and manager in telecommications. He was raised as a Mormon, but rejected Mormonism because of its stand on gays, and explored a lot of new age beliefs before adopting a philosophy based on Buddhism and Vedanta. He has worked and traveled in Africa.

He sounds like a pretty cool dude. Thanks for pointing this web page out.

I've read most of his essays, and have checked out many of his sources. He seems to be up to par, and is actually quite interesting. I recommend his essays, and they are quite readable.

I have spent considerable time reading and studying the Judeo-Christian Bible, and I just read the essay you alluded to. The information contained in the essay is far more credible and accurate than most of what is contained in the Bible.

I did detect a few minor errors, though. For example, in the book attributed to a man named "Mark," the writer clearly calls Jesus a carpenter, not the son of a carpenter: "Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon, and are not his sisters here with us?" (6:3) (The writer apparently did not know the name of Jesus' biological father. Or, if he did, he chose not to mention him.)

I recommend that you read the New Testament, especially "Mark." You will be amazed (appalled?)at what it actually says (and doesn't say) about Jesus.

IT's a real ideological perspective. For example the opening Will Durant quote, that Christianity was the triumph of Paul over Peter, most scholars today know not to push that. It was the result of a German Theologian in the 19th century named Wellhausen (I may be mispelling that) who was bascially a Hegelian. So he was looking for a Hegelian these and antithesis and synthesis. That's basically what he's reading into the facts.

I find this essay to be like many atheist persectives on the net, starngely rooted int he 19th century and very unaware of recent developments.
