Typical. A link to a list of contradictions, some no doubt persuasive, others ridiculous, instead of responding to my point.

I am not a fundy. I do not ascribe to the doctrine of inerrancy. But I do believe that Jesus Christ was resurrected from the dead after preaching the coming of the kingdom of the god. I believe, however, that these events were passed along by inspired, but imperfect human beings.

What is your underlying premise anyway? That the Bible is not perfect, so God is not perfect? The Bible is not perfect, so there is no God? The Bible is not perfect, so there was no Jesus? The Bible is not perfect, so its authors invented Christ? The Bible is not perfect, so Jesus obviously rotted in his grave?

You seem to take the lazy, easy way out. The Bible is not perfect, so we can't trust it at all. Here is a list of contradictions proving it isn't perfect, so that is as far as we need to go.

Pathetic.

do-si-do swing your partner and around you go.......
That was a nice little shuffle step with all of the questions in a row. Then you finish it off with a twist and a twirl...

Plus, you never addressed the credibility issue. And layman, my premise is should be quite obvious to you, the bible is presumably false due to inconsistencies and lack of credible evidence from outside sources. Don't make me get into the details about that, it is so counterproductive, but if you require it I will in a future posts.

What your efforts could be focused on is something that I think may take you somewhere: The bible has inconsistencies and vagueness, what could gods purpose of that be?

But it was BobK that posed the question that remains unanswered...

If this standard for evaluating holy books is not acceptable, should we have ANY standards?

What standards ought to be acceptable?

Well Nomad, as far as I know "Fundie" is short for "Fundamentalist", which is a person who believes that every statement of the Bible is meant to be taken literally. I believe that I used the word according to it's definition. There can be different degrees of fundamentalism, just as there are different degrees of insanity and stupidity. Speaking of which, "Troll" is a Scandanavian legend refering to a "Giant , later a mischievous dwarf". Although I am 6'3", I fail to see how you would know this, or how that deffenition would apply to me. As to not responding, as you accused, I responded to every valid point he had. Needless to say, the list was short. Rather than just name calling, make some valid points.

You are saying that god has installed contradictions into the bible to exclude from heaven anyone that requires some degree of credibility in their god?</font>
Interestingly, God doesn't need to put anything into the text that is contradictory for the likes of you to not get it dmv.

I asked Bob the same thing, so I will ask you hear, and see if you can give me an answer.

What would it take for you to believe that the Bible was the Word of God?

Well JragonFli, as far as I know, "nigger" is short for Negro, and "spic" is short for an Hispanic.

On the other hand, it sounds pretty bigoted to me. Maybe it's because I am from Canada instead of the United States, but I personally find derogatory terms applied to broad groups of people to be very prejudicial.

Out of curiousity, do you see the term "fundy" or "fundie" to be complimentary or respectful, or a reflection of tolerant attitudes and thinking on the part of those that use it?

According to you "nigger" is short for negro. Perhapse the schools in Canada are inferior to those in the States. Or maby your counting fingers were frostbitten and amputated. If that is the case, I will go through the math with you.
"nigger" has 6 letters. "Negro" has 5. 6 is bigger than 5. Therefore, nigger can not be short for negro. Did I loose you somewhere?

On another note, I concider the word "Christian" to be derogatory. It implies that a person follows blindly (like a sheep) and believes without question (faith). If "fundie" offends you, maby you should change your relegion.

Hmm... someone in a glass house throwing a stone maybe?

On the other hand, I do think you actually got the point of my question, as we can see below.

So you do believe in offering broad generalizations and applying them to a large group of individuals, the vast majority of whom you will never meet. If you do not fully understand what I mean by this, try making a similar statement like the one offered above and then apply it to any black, Jew, Hindu, Muslim, Indian, or any other race or creed, and ask someone how it sounds to them.

My first impression of you was correct. You are a troll.

My second impression of you is also correct. You are a bigot Daniel. I sincerely hope that one day you will get over it.

Wow.

Combine dmbprof's "christianity as a virus" rhetoric with jragonfli's "christians as mentally inferior" rhetoric, then we really ARE getting back to Berlin, 1939.

I suppose that the next thing they will do is offer their Final Solution. And I thought this site was to discuss Biblical Criticism and Archeology.

Nomad, your name suites you. Your thoughts never stay in one place, always wandering. Why are you bringing race into this equation? I am discussing only beliefs which are chosen. If you can't laugh at a joke, or find humor in an intentionally smart-alleky statement, why do you leave you house (electronically or in reality)?
You continue to call me a troll, which by deffention is both a Giant and a Dwarf at the same time. And you accuse me of labeling? Go read a dictionary! Come up with something orriginal, as I have. Really now!
I am here for one primary reason: I wish to enlighten myself...to widen my mind by seeing other viewpoints. I don't hate the Christians: I hate the christianity. And don't call me ignorant of christians, you have never lived my life, or even met me! I have converted athiests and Jehovas Witnesses to christianity. This is my pennance, I am trying to let people know that they can think for themselves. If you refuse to, that is your perogative.

On another note, I am Native American and Irish. I live in Florida and deal with Canadian tourists on a daily basis. Get over your inferiority complex and grow up. Just because you can't make a point, don't get personal over it, all right?
